Andrew Cuomo divulged the news on ABC's "Good Morning America."Cuomo said Tuesday he planned to take time off to support Lee after her surgery.The 48-year-old Lee says her doctor called her late last month just after she finished a photo shoot for People magazine, telling her she had cancer."I'm sorry I'm not looking right at you," she says. I'm really starving." Blonde, five-foot-nine Lee, wearing skinny jeans, a blue blazer, and ballet flats, digs into plates of burrata and tuna tartare. "Nobody thinks I eat, but I eat a lot." She's sitting by the fireplace in the elegant Ty lounge of the Four Seasons Hotel in New York, one of her regular haunts.

Lee has spoken of how moved she was by the sight of this big, masculine man with three little girls crawling all over him.Now, six years later, Lee calls them "my semi-homemade daughters." "Everybody's cool with it," she says. Last Christmas, she decorated the Cuomo-Lee home with a staggering seven trees.She had a cancerous lump removed and will have more extensive surgery later this week. She said she decided to talk about her illness to encourage other women to get screened."If it saves one person, and makes one more person go get a mammogram, and if they're sitting down right now watching this, don't watch this TV," she said during the interview."Go pick your phone up, and call your doctor and get your rear end in there and get a mammogram right now."A government-appointed task force that gives screening advice does not back mammograms until age 50 and says beginning in the 40s is a personal choice."I absolutely feel like they're mine when they're with me."We just have a good time together," she says of her life with Cuomo's kids, who live with her and the governor part-time at their home in Westchester County. It's a big deal." She says she cooks "mommy meals" like pot roast and apple pie — although not the crust. "The family room had three different ones to create a Christmas-scape." She laughs. I gotta put this creative energy into something." As a couple, Cuomo and Lee have maintained a very low-key profile.
